NLGI 2 greases, typically formulated from mineral base oils with lithium 12-hydroxystearate thickener, remain the most widely used greases in the industry today. However, there are situations where an NLGI 2 consistency may be excessively high, especially in colder conditions. Under low-temperature conditions, grease mobility decreases, potentially reducing lubrication effectiveness. Additionally, higher bearing speeds can also benefit from greases with lower consistency. In these instances, switching to an NLGI 1 grease, which offers lower consistency and improved grease distribution, is recommended.
In general, equipment manufacturers provide recommendations for selecting the characteristics of greases for equipment lubrication and changing their characteristics depending on temperature and operating conditions. It is on compliance with these requirements depends on the quality and duration of equipment operation.
HARTOL brand line includes grease in consistency NLGI 1 – HARTOL Multi Grease EP1.
Detailed characteristics of HARTOL Multi Grease EP1 are available at the product page.
